Where We Came From
In July of 2002 the Washington Pacific District of the Church of the Nazarne created a position for Benji and Abbi Rodes and they moved to the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle to see where God was moving and to work with Him in serving the community. They spent much of the first year on the street with many alcoholics and at an open mic learning the people and the needs of the area. Toward the end of the first year “On the House” opened. It was a free venue offered to the community to come and do any event—open mics, film screenings, art openings, jazz workshops, live music. A community believing in the transforming power of Jesus Christ began to form, and in the Spring of 2005 that group felt led to call this surfacing family “Church of the Undignified” after dacing David’s proclamation in 2 Samuel 6. Indeed, we sought to be freed from our fear of man and to worship God with all we are and see the realities of heaven invade earth.
